Fanshawe College partnership brings new talent to London

A new partnership between Fanshawe College and a college in Korea promises to bring new skills to London and increase the city’s labour pool. Fanshawe has signed a partnership with Ajou Motor College, a leading Korean educational institute specializing in technical training for the automotive sector, particularly in the areas of tool, die and mould.

The partnership will allow students to transfer credits from Ajou College to Fanshawe, assist Korean students looking for co-op and employment opportunities, and will see the two colleges sharing resources in ways that will benefit both.

Four students from Ajou College are currently enrolled in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Fanshawe and will soon qualify to enter Fanshawe’s 2-year Industrial Technician – Tool & Die program or the Motive Power Technician program. Because these students are already skilled in tool, die and mould making, they are able to share their expertise with Fanshawe students and faculty, while further developing their own skills and knowledge relevant to the North American market.

The partnership discussions between the two colleges were initiated by the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC).

“The LEDC has a comprehensive workforce development strategy for London” said Fanshawe President Dr. Howard Rundle. “Fanshawe is assisting with that strategy in as many ways as possible to ensure that our employers are able to access workers with the skills and knowledge required to keep them competitive.”

The partnership will also strengthen Fanshawe programs says Bruce Wilson, Coordinator of International Partnerships at Fanshawe College. “One of Fanshawe’s goals is to expand our international partnerships to assist our students and faculties to gain a broader global understanding of world technologies and cultures. This is a great fit.”

“This is an important partnership for both colleges,” says Jeny Wallace, Director of Workforce Development at the LEDC. “It aligns with our strategy to find innovative and effective ways to improve the training offerings and workforce resources to companies, particularly those in manufacturing.”

Fanshawe has already sent representatives of its Motive Power Technology Division and the Mechanical Technician Program to Ajou Motor College to assess their programs for transferability to Fanshawe College.
