Foreign Worker Seminar for London Employers

March 19, 2007 (London, ON) A seminar designed to assist employers that are recruiting or transferring staff from outside of Canada will come to London on April 11, hosted by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) and the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC).

Presentations will be made by representatives from Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada – the two key players in the process of bringing workers into the country.

“There are a number of companies recruiting talent from outside of Canada,” says Jeny Wallace, Director Workforce at the LEDC. “A tightening labour market means companies have to become creative and flexible in attracting and retaining staff. We are seeing an increased need to understand the process behind employing or transferring foreign workers.”

Topics to be covered include an update of Canadian immigration law and policy as it relates to foreign workers; transfers of executives, senior managers, and specialized knowledge workers; documentation requirements, applying for work permits at ports of entry; consular processing; business visitor criteria; spousal work permits; and HRSDC confirmations.

The seminar will be held in London at the Four Points Sheraton on Wellington Road from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm with lunch included. There is no cost to attend the seminar, but registration by April 6 is essential. Further information is available by calling the LEDC at 661 4545.
