GE Healthcare receives Featured Company Award

London ON – (September 13, 2006) GE Healthcare was announced today as the next recipient of the Featured Company Award presented by the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) and the City of London.

GE Healthcare is dedicated to helping transform healthcare delivery by driving critical breakthroughs in biology and technology. In London, the company designs, prototypes and manufactures pre-clinical imaging equipment, specifically CT instruments. There are three products ranging from a small specimen scanner to a large fast acquisition rotary scanner. These devices are a combination of precision machined components, complex electronics and computer software, most of which is developed in London.

GE Healthcare’s customers are typically large pharmaceutical companies and research universities which use their pre-clinical imaging equipment for early drug development and disease study. In the past three years, thanks to strong company growth, the employee base in London has grown from 15 to 40.

“GE Healthcare is extremely pleased to operate in London and honored to be selected by the LEDC as a recipient of the Featured Company of London Award,” says Michael Britton, GM of Pre-Clinical Imaging (PCI) London. “Through the products and services developed and built in London, we are helping biomedical researchers at some of the world's most advanced medical research facilities better understand disease and enable the realization of the vision of Early Health -- the early prediction, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of disease, often even before the onset of symptoms. The dedication, skill and productivity of our London employees is the foundation which is making this happen and which will continue to help save lives, improve the quality of life and change the way healthcare is delivered all over the world.”

Michael Britton, Richard Boothroyd, Operations Manager and Hao Lai, Engineering Manager at GE will be on hand to receive a commemorative plaque from Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco-Best at the City council meeting on September 18.
