Lac Mac Limited receives Featured Company of London Award

London ON – (November 2, 2005) The London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) and the City of London today announced Lac Mac Limited as the next recipient of the Featured Company of London Award. Company president and general manager Ted Zurbrigg and sales and marketing manager Charles Zurbrigg, will receive a commemorative plaque from Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco at the city council meeting on November 7.

“It is an honour to be recognized by the City of London and the LEDC” said Ted Zurbrigg, “London is renowned for medical innovation and we are very proud to play our part”.

Lac-Mac is a London based manufacturer of specialty sewn products designed primarily for the health care industry. The company has been employing Londoners since 1920 and has conducted business from their Rectory Street facility since 1948.

Recognizing that there was tremendous eyestrain on surgical staff during surgery, Lac-Mac developed ‘Eyerest Green’ as the standard colour for their operating room products. Hospitals and surgeons all over the world now use this colour in the O.R. More recently, Lac-Mac has championed the development of liquid proof and liquid resistant surgical drapes and gowns.

“These products have done much to protect patients and staff from blood borne pathogens like Hepatitis and HIV aids” says Bill Keenan, Director of Product Development. “We recall the recent SARS outbreak and recognize the growing risk to healthcare practitioners posed by viral infections. Consequently we are working to develop new products to protect hospital workers and patients from these emerging threats”.

Lac-Mac is also conscious of the link between environmental damage and our health. Consequently, their focus is on developing reusable products for Canadian and international healthcare clients.

“We are conscious of the environment both in the products we manufacture and our commitments to continually reduce the impact caused by our activities” says Charles Zurbrigg. “We encourage other London businesses as well as the City of London to promote eco-friendly products, activities and bylaws”.
