A Market -style grocery store and 125 jobs -- arrived in London yesterday. Remark Fresh Markets, a family-owned operation that started in Windsor in 1987, has opened a huge operation in the city's west end that is different from other grocers, owner Gerry Remark says. "I'm not going to brag about myself (but) it's a very, very unique concept," Remark said, noting the store sells fresh foods, specialty items and has a salad bar "that's never been seen in the city."
The store features a deli, bakery, meat counter and rotisserie department.
It is the company's second store. The first opened in Windsor in 1987.
Remark, who has moved to London to oversee the new venture, said it isn't often major grocery stores are run by a single owner.
"It's very unique," he said. "We're a family business. Our names on the sign so . . . people know that somebody in there cares."
The store at 1190 Oxford St. W. at Hyde Park Road is open weekdays 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
