More than 70 officials from the plant's Austrian head office are expected at the Tartan Drive plant for the Friday grand opening and open house, including company president Thomas Bruendl and Vijai Lakshmikanthan, vice-president operations Starlim North America.
Starlim North America manufactures silicone injection moulding and produces silicone parts for the health care, consumer, electronics and sanitation, and automotive industries. It is a subsidiary of Starlim-Sterner GmbH in Marchtrenk, Austria.
Starlim Sterner announced in 2002 it would build the $27-million plant in London to serve as its North American headquarters. At its launch, it announced it would employ about 15 people to start and then have about 100 workers within two years.
The plant will begin making auto parts, specifically seals for electronic parts, when production gears up in the new year, but will expand its product line to include health-care products.
