This session provides participants with entrepreneurship and commercialization knowledge that will help them craft their initial proposal
About this Event
The Bone and Joint Institute in partnership with Morrissette Entrepreneurship invites London-based entrepreneurs working in musculoskeletal (MSK) health to pitch innovative ideas to a panel of friendly judges for a chance to win $30,000 in investment.
Our ‘Innovation Workshop’ will provide participants with entrepreneurship and commercialization knowledge that will help them craft their initial proposals for the MSK Innovation Competition.
About the MSK Innovation Competition:
First launched in the spring of 2019, this initiative aims to cultivate skill sets that enable innovative MSK ideas to be successfully pitched to investors and promote entrepreneurial spirit. The stage of development is not restricted. Anyone on the commercialization path is welcome to participate. The competition is open to all London-based entrepreneurial MSK experts (e.g. academia, research institutions, research hospitals, start-ups, etc.).
This five-stage competition includes:
- An innovation workshop;
- Submission of initial proposals;
- Selection of teams;
- A mentorship program for selected participants; and
- A final pitch event for $30,000 of investment sponsored by the Western Bone & Joint Institute.
Each innovation team is required to include at least one Western faculty member, but anyone with the entrepreneurial itch can lead an application! While the idea has to be novel and sound, the competition is for the best pitch – i.e. the presentation that best convinces the panel on the value of the idea and how the $30,000 award will improve and/or better illustrate the potential and commercial value of the idea itself is the key to success. In addition to the grand prize, $5,000 will be awarded to a second team that shows high potential for success.
