July 20th is bringing another round of great, free and fun live music! Check out the lineup for the next edition of the London City of Music Concert Series in The Good Foundation Theatre in Market Lane, 7-10 PM, presented by Folk Music Ontario!

Broomsticks & Hammers
Winners of the 2016 Folk/Roots Jack Richardson London Music Award, Broomsticks & Hammers continues and builds on the folk/roots tradition of taking songs grounded in stories of the human condition and treating these stories with great musicianship and exciting band dynamics. On record, the songs shine through alongside the band’s keen ear for thoughtful and sometimes quirky musical treatments. Live, the force of a seven-piece unit comes to the fore as the band traverses folk, rock, country, and even a little jazz and blues with ease. Fans of the roots music of Blue Rodeo, Dan Mangan, Ryan Adams, The Skydiggers, The Band, and others will find that Broomsticks & Hammers fits right in.
Mikal Shapiro (Kansas City, Missouri)
Mikal spent her early childhood wandering the Sonoran Desert before her family headed back to Kansas City, Missouri where her father, grandparents and great grandparents called home. A creature of the foothills, mountains, rivers and plains, she continues to roam the landscape; drawing inspiration from her travels, love life, and the state of the Union.
She has been touring solo and with various musical projects since 1999.
??The Kansas City Star, Deli Magazine and Wednesday MidDay Medley declared her album “The Musical” to be one of the top releases of 2015.
In Spring 2018, she released her sequel album "The Musical II" featuring the single "Everybody's Baby." It made the top 10 releases of 2019 on 90.9FM The Bridge and 90.1FM KKFI and was featured in the top 3 of DJ Mark Manning's Wednesday MidDay Medley.
Her other projects include her duo Shapiro Brothers and State City Films.
The Allen Family Reunion
The Allen Family Reunion is a five-piece intergenerational bluegrass band from London, ON. Led by Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame member and Juno Award-winning fiddle player John P. Allen, the band combines folk and roots sounds with four-part vocal harmonies to bring this traditional music to a new generation.
Canadian folk music legend Sylvia Tyson says, “I’ve heard The Allen Family Reunion both live and on CD and they are a joy to listen to. There is such obvious love of the music, and a tightness in arrangements and harmony singing that only happens in family ensembles.”
Fiker
Fiker is a 24 year old black, queer singer/songwriter, and musician. She has been playing music and writing songs (for herself) since she was about 13. Music/singing has always played a huge role in her life for as long as she can remember, so she has always tried to remain in spaces where the people around her feel the same. fiker loves to play, and listen to, all genres of music, but right now is more aligned to an indie folk genre. fiker has only been performing her own music live for a year and is excited to continue doing so. fiker will (hopefully) be releasing her own music soon!
The London City of Music Concert Series continues until the end of August. Local, national and even international performers will be featured in Canada's UNESCO City of Music.
All events are free to attend and pre-registration is encouraged. Upon registration and attendance, guests will be entered into a draw to win prizes at each show. Winners will be picked weekly from June to August.
