20th Annual International Women’s Day Breakfast celebrating

‘Women Breaking Through the Glass Ceiling’

February 21, 2020

The London Abused Women’s Centre (LAWC) and Kim Mullan - Sutton Group Reality Select proudly present the 20th Annual International Woman’s Day Breakfast & Auction. The event will take place on Friday, March 6th from 7:00am to 9:00am at RBC Place London. The theme of this year’s breakfast event is “Women Breaking Through the Glass Ceiling” and LAWC is honoured to welcome Lynn Smurthwaite-Murphy as Keynote speaker. Lynn was the first female President & CEO at StarTech.com where she was leading an aggressive global growth strategy. During her 3-year tenure the company’s revenues grew more than 50% and their market coverage expanded into several new countries around the world. Prior to her position at StarTech.com Lynn was Executive Vice President, Westcon North American region where she was responsible for a complex 2.6B organization with 600 employees and 4 separate business units.  As a role model for women and girls her passion has always been to create an environment where people can learn and develop to their full potential.

Attending guests will have the opportunity to bid on a ‘Breakfast with Tessa’ donated by long-time LAWC supporter 2-time Olympic champion and 3-time World champion Tessa Virtue. Other live auction items include a ‘Super Basketball Fan Package’ including a signed Raptors Jersey, the opportunity to ‘Take to the Sky in a Vintage Harvard Aircraft’ and an ‘Exclusive Wine and Whisky Package’ featuring rare and hard to find wines and whiskeys.

The London Abused Women’s Centre is a feminist agency providing abused and exploited women and girls over the age of 12 with hope and help. This includes women and girls exploited in prostitution/sex trafficking/pornography; abused by their intimate partners; and/or subjected to sexual harassment or torture. Last year alone LAWC served 8,081 women and girls, this number reflects a staggering 103% increase of service demand over the past two years. All proceeds from this year’s breakfast event go to front line services at the agency.
