October 13, 2006 (London, ON) Ohio-based Duracoat Powder Finishing has opened its first Canadian operation in London.
Specializing in thermoplastic powder coatings, Duracoat is a supplier to Tier 1, 2 and 3 automotive companies including Ford, General Motors, Daimler Chrysler, Honda, Toyota and Nissan.
Located in existing space on Newbold St., Duracoat’s London’s location employs 15 people with plans for expansion in the near future.
According to Duracoat president and owner, Frank Monosmith, London was chosen as the site for a Canadian operation because of its location and access to market. He also cites the strong automotive cluster as a determining factor.
“London offers good expansion possibilities,” said Monosmith, “We have already secured a major contract with a London company and with a growing number of automotive parts companies in this city, we know these opportunities will continue to grow.”
The London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) played a key role in assisting the company with its location plans and needs. While Duracoat has two facilities in the United States, the LEDC provided information and advice on workforce, Canadian corporate structure including legal requirements, accounting and immigration.
“We are pleased to add Durocoat to London’s strong automotive parts industry,” says John Kime, President and CEO of the LEDC, “London has all the right elements for these types of facilities and we continue to see strong interest from the manufacturing industry in what London has to offer.”
