Big ideas. Big ambitions. Big results.
It’s all in the game plan as London’s Big Viking Games (BVG) works its way towards becoming a giant in the game development industry.
Big Viking Games was founded by industry veteran Greg Thomson and serial entrepreneur Albert Lai in 2011. The two put their talents together to start a company with a team of passionate artists, designers and engineers.
The company develops free-to-play social and mobile games that have placed BVG among some of the biggest game developers for web, Facebook and mobile devices. The company is pioneering the use of HTML5 technologies with the world's most advanced mobile games built with open web tools.
Their demonstrated leadership in the field has earned BVG the Featured Company award, which will be presented by the City of London and the London Economic Development Corporation on February 25.
“It's an honour to be recognized as a London-based company that deserves to be featured,” Thomson said. “This recognition is a validation of our hard work at growing a successful business that cares for and supports both our employees and the community we live in.”
Starting off with four employees in 2011, BVG has created a total of 50 full-time permanent high-skilled positions in London over the last 2 years and is anticipating adding another 20 over the next six months. BVG has quickly moved up the ranks and was recently recognized in the Globe and Mail as one of Canada’s Top 100 employers. BVG takes pride in maintaining a great work environment where employees are given a chance to succeed and are provided with Silicon Valley-like perks.
The company with a game roster that has reached millions across the world proudly calls London, Canada home – participating in the community through involvement with various charitable organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of London and the Sunshine Foundation.
“London is a large enough city to provide the infrastructure and services a world class business requires, while at the same time offering a lower cost of living which helps attract the talent we need,” Thomson added. “The support of both the Ontario government and London has been vital in our growth and continued success.”
