Business Momentum Series: An Employer’s Channel to Success

LEDC & Fanshawe CTS Business Momentum Series delivers free, interactive workshops to small and medium-sized businesses in London, Ontario.

Small businesses must be well structured to survive in a competitive environment and one of the vital factors a business must always account for is its workforce. Although several businesses do a good job of that, accessing talent to fill additional positions remains a top challenge for employers across Canada – and businesses in London have not been immune to this. With growth always at top of mind for businesses, having a top quality workforce – in both size and skills – is important for reaching that next level.

Within small and medium sized businesses, employees are often responsible for cross-department roles as it’s not always possible to have full in-house capabilities like larger businesses. Technology can sometimes make the job of employees juggling multiple responsibilities much easier, however there is often a learning curve as they grow into new roles.

To increase efficiency and expertise in these new roles, local employers often reach out to LEDC looking for training programs and professional development opportunities their growing teams can leverage to help with this internal capacity building. That’s where the idea for Business Momentum comes in. “Through attending sessions on Digital Marketing and Public Relations, I was able to gain better knowledge into these areas that could be applied in my new role, as well as assisting other members in our business with new ideas, helpful tips and things we should be looking out for moving forward,” said Tyler Tiffin, Events & Marketing Coordinator, PSD – Research, Consulting, Software.

Helping your business gain momentum

The Business Momentum Series, an initiative by London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) and Fanshawe College’s Corporate Training Solutions (Fanshawe CTS), was launched in 2016 to address this growing need in the local business community. These free, one-day, interactive workshops provide training for human resources and communications best practices so guests can take what they’ve learned and put it into practice straight away. Through this partnership with Fanshawe CTS, LEDC has been able to deliver these workshops at no cost to the business representatives while bringing in engaging speakers.

Each year, hundreds of local business representatives across a variety of industries in the manufacturing, digital creative, health, food and beverage, and professional services sectors attend the Business Momentum Series workshops. From providing communications, branding, public relations, and digital marketing, to recruitment, immigration laws, and business growth, the workshops cover a wide variety of topics and areas to develop skills. The series has proved popular in the local community and often fill up so fast that wait lists or additional sessions are necessary.

“Whether you're an entrepreneur or looking to expand your existing skills, these courses are a perfect opportunity to start looking at other scopes of your business that are arguably very important but may not be your main priority at the moment. It's also a great way to connect with other individuals that can help or provide great insight into what they're currently doing, or plan on implementing in their everyday work lives,” Tyler Tiffin added.

Why choose momentum for your professional development?

  • All workshops are at no cost to you and are completed in a single day
