London, ON – Applications are being sought for the first two Emerging Leaders community projects.
OnBoard! seeks to establish emerging leaders on city-wide boards, councils and advisory bodies. MentorNET is a city-wide mentorship network connecting established business and community leaders with promising emerging leaders. Applications for both programs will be accepted via the Emerging Leaders website (www.emergingleaders.ca) from July 27 - August 17. OnBoard! Museum London, Covent Garden Market, the London Chamber of Commerce and The Grand Theatre are just a few of the organizations that have agreed to establish board positions for emerging leaders. -Candidates are asked to review the requirements supplied by the individual boards and apply appropriately by uploading a current copy of their resume/CV. -All persons in the Emerging Leaders demographic (22-44 years of age) are eligible to apply. -Candidates selected by the respective boards will be contacted in September for an October start date. -Information on the selection process and a list of participating boards can be found at www.emergingleaders.ca MentorNET Several key community, business and civic leaders have agreed to act as mentors to emerging leaders, including The Honourable Chris Bentley, Ontario Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities; Fanshawe College President Howard Rundle; Ted Hewitt, Western’s Vice-President (Research & International Relations); Chamber CEO & General Manager Gerry Macartney; Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco-Best, who was also the project’s community champion; and Helen Connell, United Way of London & Middlesex Executive Director. -In order to be eligible as a candidate for mentoring (“mentee”), each individual must supply a two-page typed submission detailing why they are interested in the mentor relationship with the chosen individual, and what they expect to contribute and gain from the experience. -Candidates are also required to submit two references. -Mentors commit to a minimum of one to two meetings/interactions per month. -Chosen candidates can expect their mentor-match to begin in October and run until May 2008. -All persons in the Emerging Leaders demographic (22-44 years of age) are eligible to apply. -Information on the selection process and a list of participating mentors can be found at www.emergingleaders.ca. -“MentorNET and OnBoard! fit perfectly with the goals of the Emerging Leaders initiative: to facilitate involvement by London’s 22-44-year-old demographic; to create investment by this demographic in the community; and to provide a voice for dialogue on issues facing London in the next decade,” says Jeff Sage, Assistant Manager, Marketing & Communications, Fanshawe College, who co-chairs Emerging Leaders with his wife, Lindsay Sage, Director of Marketing & Development for the London Public Library.
