Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME)

Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME)

Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) is Canada’s largest trade and industry association, providing a voice for manufacturing and global business in Canada. The CME represents more than 10,000 leading companies nationwide and interacts with more than 100,000 companies coast to coast.  More than 85 per cent of their members are small and medium-sized enterprises.

The CME helps Canadian manufacturers and exporters compete and win in domestic and global markets by leveraging their leadership, expertise, connections, and membership strengths. Collectively, the CME’s membership network accounts for 82 per cent of Canadian manufacturing production and 90 per cent of all goods and services exports.

CME 20th Annual Recognition Night – Southwestern Ontario Branch (SWOB)

Recently, the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) had their 20th Annual Recognition Night for the Southwestern Ontario Branch. Held in London, the event was a tremendous success, bringing in more than 220 attendees and awarding $16,000 in scholarships. Over the last 20 years, CME has awarded more than 100 scholarships, a value well over $100,000.

The event brings together people involved with manufacturing and exporting to recognize the top manufacturing students in Southwestern Ontario. The scholarships are designed to promote education related to manufacturing and acknowledge the achievements of talented, future leaders in this sector.

Craig McIntosh, CME Chair on the National Board and Executive Chairman of Acrylon Plastics opened the event, delivering an insightful CME address to the audience. Keynote speaker Sandra Pupatello, Director of Business Development and Global Markets at PwC and CEO at the Windsor Essex Economic Development Corporation gave an inspiring talk on driving growth in manufacturing.

In 2014, Canadian Manufacturing grew almost twice as fast as the entire economy. This strong growth sets manufacturing apart from other sectors, creating a promising career path for students to pursue.

Building Success

This year, eight scholarships were given to students currently enrolled in a manufacturing-related program. The recipients are: Erica Glatt and Alex Churchill from Western University, Kaz Szydlowski and Kenneth Homewood from Fanshawe College, Spencer Beer and Jeff Williams from London District Catholic School Board, and Shawn Cummings and Mitchel Priestap from Thames Valley District School Board.

Labatt Breweries of Canada was awarded the Partner in Education Manufacturer’s Award as the leading manufacturer working with the education sector to support and promote manufacturing as a career choice for students.
