LONDON, ON - The Dr. Sandy Kirkley Centre for Musculoskeletal Research houses a multitude of diverse orthopaedic research teams under one roof. From sport medicine and biomechanics to joint replacement and advanced surgical techniques, investigators at the Kirkley Centre will collaborate to change the future of muscle and joint health.
The centre is named in honour of the late Dr. Sandy Kirkley. As a skilled surgeon, supportive teacher and dedicated researcher, Dr. Kirkley represented the model of a physician-scholar.
The Kirkley Centre is located in the Lindros Legacy Research building, one of the most fully integrated interventional research sites in the world. Researchers at the Centre have gathered from Lawson Health Research Institute, London Health Sciences Centre and The University of Western Ontario to drive the next generation of advancements in health care. Together, they form a hub for scientific and medical advancement. The construction and initial equipping of the centre was wholly-funded by the generosity of donors through London Health Sciences Foundation
"The Dr. Sandy Kirkley Centre is building on Sandy's legacy of innovation and collaboration," says Dr. David Hill, Scientific Director at Lawson Health Research Institute. "We can only imagine the advancements that will come out of the Centre in the years to come. This is beginning of a new era for orthopaedic research in Canada."
