CImTeC’s Role
The Centre for Imaging Technology Commercialization (CImTeC) will assist in accelerating the commercialization of medical imaging and digital pathology technologies from innovation to successful healthcare products. CImTeC will help to remove the barriers that are in the path to success of Canadian medical imaging companies, and are preventing commercialization of imaging technology emerging from Canadian academic institutions.
CImTeC will play three key roles. First, the Centre will help newly formed and existing small and medium-sized medical imaging companies with the critically needed expertise, technical capabilities and infrastructure to help them to become internationally competitive. Second, the Centre will promote training and investment in imaging technology through the cultivation of new strategic partnerships between the private sector and academic centres. And third, the Centre will increase the return on research investment by increasing Canadian imaging commercialization, thus increasing economic growth and the number of high-tech jobs in Canada.
CImTeC will offer assistance through its three cores:
- Technology Development: prototyping & translation
- Technology Validation: pathology testing & clinical trials
- Commercialization: advancing SMEs & start-ups
The Impact
Our goal is to secure a world-leading position for our Canadian cluster of medical imaging companies. This will lead to increased investment from the venture capital community and partnerships with multi-national companies for validation and testing of new imaging technology. Ultimately, these activities will lead to improved understanding, diagnosis and treatment of human disease, and improve the quality of healthcare in Canada and globally.
