The City is excited to announce the launch of the fifth annual Neighbourhood Decision Making program. From now until April 29, Londoners of any age can share ideas for enhancements, events or activities they would like to see in their local neighbourhood through the City’s engagement platform, Get Involved, for a chance to make those ideas a reality.
Ideas may include community events, little libraries, bike parking, park benches, neighbourhood skating rink equipment, accessible swings and outdoor chess tables, to name a few. Londoners can find examples of ideas on Get Involved. We encourage Londoners to submit their own ideas since they know their local neighbourhoods best.
After the submission deadline, City staff will review all the ideas for feasibility. If a project is feasible, City staff will work with the idea submitter to develop their idea into a one-page proposal. Then, the idea submitter is encouraged to promote their idea to their neighbours and local community ahead of Vote Day on June 25. On Vote Day, Londoners from all areas of the city will have the opportunity to vote on ideas they want implemented in their neighbourhood. The winning ideas will be brought to life.
“Fresh off the heels of last year’s program, we’re really excited to bring Neighbourhood Decision Making 2022 to Londoners this spring,” says Karen Oldham, Manager of Neighbourhood Development and Supports. “Our staff will be out in the community over the next couple of months engaging with residents and promoting the program at community centres, London Public Library branches and local events taking place across London.”
Through this annual program, a total of $250,000 is available to enhance neighbourhoods across the city. This year, individual neighbourhood projects can reach up to $30,000.
Those interested in learning more about the program are encouraged to attend a virtual information session on April 6 between 7 and 8 p.m., where City staff will discuss past winning projects, feasible and non-feasible ideas and how to create a successful submission. Please visit Get Involved to register for this session.
In 2021, the program received an overwhelmingly positive response, with 230 ideas submitted and more than 10,300 votes cast to decide which projects would share in a total of $250,000 in funding.
