(London, Ontario) Fanshawe College is pleased to announce long-time Governor Crispin Colvin has been appointed Chair of the Fanshawe College Board of Governors for 2012-2013. Mr. Colvin, who has served as First Vice-Chair since September 2010, will take over as chair from Britta Winther in September.
Margaret Nish will serve as First Vice-Chair and Scott Player will remain in his current position as Second Vice-Chair. Together, they will form the Board Process Committee, which plans and sets agendas for regular Board meetings and other functions. The Board Process Committee also plays an important role in budget reviews, the President’s annual appraisal and monitoring the application of Board policies.
“Like all Fanshawe College governors, I became involved because I recognize the value Fanshawe brings to our region and its economy,” Mr. Colvin said. “I am honoured to become Chair and to work with Margaret and Scott, as well as the other great people who sit on the Board with us. We are looking forward to supporting Fanshawe as it continues to grow and serve our community.”
Fanshawe governors are drawn from community and College representatives and selected through an extensive interview and election process. Governors have a three-year term, with the option of adding a second term. This year, the Board is welcoming new members Hugh Mitchell, Susan Rabkin, Margaret Rae and Shawn Sikorski.

Crispin Colvin, Chair
Crispin is the owner of a family farm outside London which manages purebred beef and cash crops. In addition, he has been involved in municipal politics since 1994, most recently as Mayor of the Municipality of Thames Centre from 2003 to 2006. Prior to his political career, Crispin worked as a bilingual travel consultant, developing travel arrangements for London Life employees and as a sales representative for Air Canada.
Crispin is a graduate of the Recreation Leadership program at Fanshawe College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western University. He has taught in the Travel and Tourism program and in Continuing Education at Fanshawe.
Margaret Nish, First Vice-Chair
Margaret retired in December 2006 from her position as Executive Vice President, Clinical Care and Academic Affairs at the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC). She remains active post-retirement as an independent consultant. Before joining the LHSC, Margaret worked in Kelowna, Regina and Vancouver in senior leadership roles both in nursing and patient services.
Margaret graduated in 1968 with a Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing from McGill University and in 1987 with a Master of Science from the University of Portland, Oregon. She holds a Johnson & Johnson-Wharton Fellowship in Management for Nurses from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and is a Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Service Executives.
Scott Player, Second Vice-Chair
Scott recently retired from his financial executive position with major Canadian energy company Enbridge Inc. He holds an MBA from Western University (1976) and obtained his Certified Director designation in 2006 from McMaster University. Scott has diverse board experience spanning over 20 years with both profit and not-for-profit organizations, including Cornwall Electric, the St. Joseph’s Hospital Board and provincial and federal political associations.
