NOVEMBER 17, 2021 – Downtown London, in collaboration with the London Community Recovery Network, Dundas Place, and the City of London, is thrilled to announce the Festival of Markets. Taking place every weekend from November 25th to December 19th, with an additional event on December 23rd, the Festival of Markets is a collaborative event series that aims to bring a true holiday season ambiance to London.
“Downtown is the destination for holiday shopping, dining, and experiences. The collaborations between Downtown London, its community partners, local musicians, artists, and the business community are coming together to create a truly exciting lineup. We look forward to welcoming shoppers and providing them with a best-in-class experience”, Downtown London’s Executive Director Barbara Maly says.
During the festival, Dundas Place between Ridout Street and Talbot Street will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic to accommodate 12 shipping container units. This block of Dundas Place will remain open for residents and visitors to visit and walk or bike through. The container units will be used by a diverse offering of different vendors, and the street will be programmed with large-scale art installations, projections, and live music.
The Festival of Markets is an initiative developed out of the London Community Recovery Network to support London’s recovery from COVID-19. The London Community Recovery Network brings together leaders from the private sector, non-profit, institutional and community organizations to create and align local recovery efforts. Downtown London, with support from Dundas Place and the City of London, is implementing this recovery initiative to support the many businesses in the core area and create another exciting destination for residents and visitors this winter.
In addition to the Festival of Markets, Downtown London has organized a number of other activations dispersed across the entire downtown boundary. These include a free hot beverage crawl, a holiday themed scavenger hunt, a series of 4 DJ & Skate Parties, a Holiday Window Walk in collaboration with Curveball Creative, roaming caroller performances, and a Window Display Contest.
All public health and COVID-19 safety protocols will be strictly followed. As this is a fully outdoor event, masks are recommended when interacting with others and will be made available at the entry points. Hand sanitizer will be provided at various stations throughout the market. All vendors participating in the Festival of Markets are fully vaccinated.
