Driven by Data, Rooted in Community: CARFAX Canada Celebrates 25 Years

CARFAX Canada is marking a significant milestone in 2025: 25 years of operation.

Originally founded as CarProof in 2000 in London, Ont., the company was built to provide Canadians with critical insights into vehicle history, including accident and lien information. In 2016, it was acquired by its parent company, leading to a 2018 rebranding as CARFAX Canada.

Over the years, it has expanded its offerings beyond vehicle history to include vehicle valuation and service insights, always with the mission of empowering Canadians to make informed automotive decisions.

CARFAX Canada’s growth in London has been significant. What started as a small startup has evolved into a leader in the tech industry, employing over 500 people, also making it one of the largest tech employers in the region.

“I think that is a real testament to the fact that London has created this really great opportunity for us as a business, to add to our success and being able to attract talent locally here as well,” says Ali Earle, vice president of people and workplace at CARFAX Canada. “We started as a small startup with just sort of a handful of employees and have grown to over a 500-person operation within the CARFAX business in London. Plus some others scattered across the country in terms of our sales teams to serve all our customers. So, that's a pretty big deal.”

The company has provided over 45 million vehicle history reports, backed by billions of records in its database. This wealth of information has solidified CARFAX’s reputation as a trusted name in automotive insights, serving not only consumers but also dealerships, insurance companies, and government agencies.

The decision to stay and grow in London has been strategic. With its strong talent pipeline from Western University and Fanshawe College, the city has provided a skilled workforce without the high cost of living and congestion associated with larger urban centers like Toronto. CARFAX Canada has leveraged this advantage, maintaining a high-caliber, tech-forward work environment while fostering a tight-knit corporate culture.

“We've also been fortunate enough to receive a lot of different awards for our culture as an organization here in London,” says Earle. “Most recently being one of southwestern Ontario's top employers.”

Beyond business, CARFAX Canada is deeply committed to community engagement. The company recently partnered with the London Children’s Museum to sponsor the CARFAX Canada Fox Den exhibit, reflecting its investment in local families and education.

"We're really happy to be able to support the London Children's Museum and the work that they do for children in London, so we've sponsored the CARFAX Canada Fox Den, which is an exhibit within the newly opened Children's Museum right here in the building that we that we work in at 100 Kellogg,” says Earle. “I know a lot of our employees have really enjoyed being a part of that and bringing their families and seeing the CARFAX name in there as well.”

Employees are given three paid volunteer days per year, contributing to initiatives like ReForest London’s Million Tree Challenge and local park cleanups. Additionally, leftover food from the company’s weekly lunches is donated to the Men’s Mission, reinforcing a culture of giving back.

"It’s so important being gracious and grateful for the community in which we operate and allow employees to sort of see that corporate social responsibility as well,” says Earle.

Innovation remains at the forefront of CARFAX Canada’s mission. With a vast database and expertise in data analytics, the company is using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to provide deeper insights into vehicle history, valuation, and service needs.

One of its most impactful initiatives is its work with provincial and federal governments to combat vehicle fraud and auto theft. By leveraging its extensive data, CARFAX Canada helps identify fraudulent activity, protecting both consumers and the broader automotive industry.

CARFAX Canada’s ability to blend cutting-edge technology with strong community ties has been a driving force behind its longevity in London. As it continues to evolve, the company remains dedicated to providing trusted vehicle insights while contributing positively to the city its Canadian headquarters calls home.
