Film London recently ventured to the Rocky Mountains for the Banff World Media Festival, one of the largest Film, TV, and media conferences with industry professionals from over 50 countries.
It’s a move that Film Manager, Andrew Dodd says is necessary to propel the mandate of his office and market London as the next big filming destination in Ontario, “The goal is to attract productions to the London area. "My presence in Banff has hopefully educated producers about what London has to offer, such as affordable fees, desired locations, local crews, and a dedicated liaison in Film London.”
Along with building awareness, the festival proved to be a winning endeavour for Film London as it provided avenues for connections with key creatives. For Andrew, that’s laying the foundation for success: “While in Banff, I was able to meet with filmmakers, producers, location managers, and general content creators to educate them about how their upcoming projects can benefit from filming in London. I was also able to consult with other industry professions that I didn’t necessarily plan on targeting such as animators from Calgary and members of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. Such spontaneous relationships can end up being some of the more fruitful, even if in unexpected ways.”
Film London continues to make a mark in the industry that is predominantly people-focused, looking for conferences, festivals and events like Banff that will provide excellent opportunities to connect and market London as a vibrant and valuable city.
