As a result of the global pandemic, the Provincial and Federal governments took many steps to ensure the safety of our community. As a result, many small businesses were asked to close their doors to the public. This has undoubtedly had a financial impact on small businesses located in London’s downtown. But today’s story is one of resilience rather than hardship.
Downtown London’s small businesses are resilient. They are innovative and quick to pivot. As a result of the provincial restrictions placed on business, many of our members have pivoted their business models to introduce new streams of revenue: an enhanced online shopping experience, offering takeout/delivery, and curbside pick up.
As an organization, Downtown London has been blown away by the dedication, resiliency, and creativity demonstrated by our members. We recognize that operating a small business in this new capacity is not easy and it requires a significant investment to pivot one’s business to these new operating models. As a result, Downtown London has launched two new programs that will provide direct financial support to members.
The Restart Grant is a one-time grant awarded to qualifying businesses to assist with the costs of addressing the provincial health and safety requirements for businesses that are planning to reopen as COVID-19 related restrictions are lifted. This could include costs for personal protective equipment.
The Marketing Grant is a one-time grant to assist with new COVID-19 related marketing costs for businesses that are planning to reopen when the restrictions are lifted. This grant covers costs such as marketing services includes Downtown Dollars for promotional use.
