London, ON – (November 3, 2005) The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the London Economic Development Corporation will host a Foreign Worker Seminar for London and area employers in London on November 15th. Presenters at the event will include representatives of Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
This seminar will provide information on the various processes and ways of bringing recruited workers and inter-company transferees into Canada. This seminar is designed for managers and human resources professionals, particularly those who are employed by companies that are recruiting or transferring staff from outside of Canada.
“This seminar is timely” says Jeny Wallace, Director of Workforce Development. “There are a lot of companies who are recruiting talent from outside of Canada, as well as many companies transferring staff from locations outside of Canada. The forecast tightening labour market means companies will have to become very creative and flexible in attracting and retaining staff, so understanding the process now could pay off if the need becomes urgent in the future.
Topics to be covered include an update of Canadian immigration law and policy as it relates to foreign workers; transfers of executives, senior managers, and specialized knowledge workers; documentation requirements, applying for work permits at ports of entry; consular processing; business visitor criteria; spousal work permits; and HRSDC confirmations.
The seminar will be held in London and will run from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm with lunch included. There is no cost to attend the seminar, but registration is essential. Further information is available by calling the LEDC at 661 4545.
