Geek Labs: Evolving Education LONDON, Ontario

Inner Geek has just announced Geek Labs, a series of intensive programs that provide students with knowledge and training in a variety of web and mobile disciplines. From the mass interest at the MEAN stack talks at Explode Code on June 18, they will begin with a 12 week, part-time course on Mastering Web APIs, beginning on Monday,November 24, 2014.
Wanting to create a larger, more experienced talent pool for London, CEO of Inner Geek, Colton Hathaway, believes this will be a great addition to what high schools and post-secondary institutions are currently offering their students. “We will be teaching what schools don’t. We believe that students will benefit from courses that provide them with more practical knowledge and industry experience in a production environment to better prepare them for the workforce. While schools provide base knowledge, employers look for the ability to apply it successfully.
Through our expertise, we want to help our students create meaningful products with the goal of increasing their chances of finding employment afterwards.”
However, this isn’t just for students. Agencies and large organizations also have the opportunity to sponsor their employees to attend Geek Labs to gain more specialized knowledge in back-end web development, to improve their talent base and extend their product offerings.
Geek labs costs $2,500 for the 12 week program. There will be a 3-hour lecture offered on Tuesday or Wednesday from 6:30-9:30pm along with a Lab on Thursdays from 6:30-9:30pm, where students will have access to a TA to help them with projects. Students will also have access to the space to work on assignments.
Greg Smith, Lead Web Developer at Inner Geek, will be teaching the initial course. Greg has over 10 years of web experience and has instructed courses at Fanshawe College, having a passion for sharing his knowledge with others.
