IKEA Canada announced today that they have secured a location in London, Ontario for their new Pick-Up-Point at 3198 Wonderland Road South. The location, slated to open late 2015, will allow customers who have shopped online or at an IKEA store to pick up their products closer to where they live. Customers will also be able to; buy services to support their purchases, sit at a computer station to browse www.IKEA.ca to make online purchases, as well as having access to a limited assortment of products available for immediate takeaway. IKEA currently has 12 stores across Canada and sees a great growth potential in opening Pick-Up-Points, whose format is part of a global test pilot, in markets where there are currently no stores.
“The ambition is to make IKEA more accessible to the many Canadians.” says Stefan Sjöstrand, President, IKEA Canada. “The Pick-Up-Points allow IKEA to expand quickly into markets that have been identified as having potential, resulting in consumers having easier access to our products.”
Consumers will have the opportunity to interact with the IKEA brand in smart new and convenient ways. The Pick-Up-Point location will reduce delivery times and costs for customers at the same time as delivering inspiration and services. The location will feature a home furnishing inspiration area as well as stations to support customers with their planning process.
“This is fantastic news for London. The Southwestern Ontario region will be well served by this Pick-Up-Point location — the first of its kind in North America,” said Mayor Matt Brown. “Our city has been chosen to test new products, concepts and service delivery models for decades. Londoners have been looking forward to welcoming IKEA here for many years and now we look forward to watching it grow.”
“We are continually reviewing expansion opportunities in Canada and consider London a key market for expansion.” continues Sjöstrand. “We look forward to serving this market and are confident that we will have a positive impact on the community through job creation and service contracts.”
