What is Just Own It?
Brescia University College will be hosting the inaugural Just Own It conference on Friday, February 20th, 2015.
The Just Own It program is a new initiative that provides high school girls with the opportunity to be exposed to, explore, and experience entrepreneurship. Our objective is to increase girls’ awareness of entrepreneurship as a career option and to inspire them to start a business.
Within this program, we invite 300 high school girls, as chosen by their Board of Education, to our one-day conference on February 20th. Students will participate in active- learning workshops using the curriculum from the Future Entrepreneurs program, coached by young female entrepreneurs, under the age of 30. Students will be exposed to entrepreneurship, exploring the characteristics of entrepreneurs to see themselves as entrepreneurs. They will explore the process of generating and identifying business ideas. The conference includes a mid-day meal and trade show, where students can network with and learn more about small business organizations in London and the surrounding area.
How can you help?
We are currently recruiting alumnae volunteers to help us deliver one 50-minute session to a small group of girls. There are three types of sessions: idea generation; product development; and technology and entrepreneurship. Brescia will design the activities, provide all materials and give you a short training session to prepare you to work with the girls.
We are looking for female entrepreneurs and those working in the entrepreneurship space. All women entrepreneurs are welcome, but we would especially like to invite entrepreneurial women under the age of 35 to participate. The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20th, 2015. In preparation for this event, we will be providing a facilitator training session on Tuesday, February 17th. Please respond to our Program Co-ordinator, Samantha Hayes at shayes47@uwo.ca if you are interested in participating in the Just Own It conference.
Thank you in advance for considering getting involved with this event and we hope to see you on campus again soon.
