LEDC and City of London event showcases London’s latest investment and growth successes

London, ON – Over the past six months, a number of local London companies across the advanced manufacturing, food processing, and digital creative sectors have been growing, innovating, and investing in London, and many of their stories have flown under the radar. On Thursday, August 8th, the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) and the City of London brought together some of these companies along with a number of business owners, community leaders, and media representatives to help showcase these success stories.

From Indiva investing $11 million in their facility and production equipment to KGK Science doubling sales and expanding its team, London companies are attracting investments, growing their facilities and workforces, and are expanding into new markets.

The Details:

  • Indiva, a licensed medical grade cannabis producer, has recently invested in their facility to create new grow rooms and purchase new processing and production equipment. The expansion has created 25 new jobs, mainly for office and production work. Since inception in 2015, Indiva has invested $30 million into their operations and expect to have nearly 100 employees by the end of the year.
  • One of Canada’s largest agricultural and environmental laboratory located in London, A&L Canada Laboratories, recently purchased 1 acre of land to expand their facility, adding dozens of jobs. Since establishing a presence in London over 30 years ago, the company has expanded their facility 3 times and have benefitted from being located in the centre of Ontario’s agricultural heartland, access to technical and skilled talent that supports their operations, and the ability to collaborate with educational and research institutions on many of their projects.
  • Research organization KGK Science that specializes in human clinical trials has added more than 25 people to their team since January 2018 and are now at 100 employees here in London. Acquired last year by Auxly Cannabis Group Inc., KGK has doubled their sales and increased their staff by 37%, with 12 positions currently open. KGK expects to continue on this growth trajectory as they establish themselves as a go-to health expert.
  • Green Solutions Plastic Lumber, a division of Tri-County Plastics that accepts colour concentrate, PVC, polypropylene, and so on, leased 20,000 square feet of office space and has created 10 new jobs. Since starting four months ago in London, the company is nearing 50+ employees and expects to have 100 by the end of the year to keep up with demand

LEDC works closely with these companies to find suitable land or office space, secure grants, funding, and incentives, train current employees, and connect with potential talent. Often, these milestones take time to come to fruition and are dependent on a variety of factors. It’s LEDC’s role to help mitigate those fluctuations and help the companies share their achievements.
