April 25, 2007: The London Economic Development Corporation is preparing to conduct a Canada-wide search for a new President and CEO. LEDC President and CEO John Kime has announced that he will be leaving the organization on July 31, 2007.
Kime has led the LEDC, recognized as one of Canada's leading economic development organizations, since it was founded in 1998. Kime said it is the right time for him to seek new challenges, and time for the LEDC to seek new leadership.
"I am tremendously proud of what our LEDC team has accomplished, and grateful to the many individuals and organizations, literally around the world, who have supported the work of the LEDC. We have created a model for economic development that is respected and envied by many communities."
The LEDC has a formidable track record of success in attracting new investments to London, including many international companies. In addition, the organization has helped to strengthen the economy by assisting with the retention and growth of existing businesses.
John held firmly to the belief that the process of attracting business is not about salesmanship, but about relationships. He worked hard to get to know and understand those who were considering locating in London. He came to understand their needs, answer their questions and helped them to overcome hurdles. He offered accurate information and a sincere welcome that helped to build lasting and successful relationships with business leaders who often commented that it was his efforts that convinced them London was the place to locate.
LEDC Board Chair, Bernie Zaifman said, "Working with a group of London business leaders including the late Earl Orser, John helped build this organization from the ground up. We are tremendously grateful for his work and his leadership and for the excellent return on investment that the LEDC has provided to London. Our goal now will be to find someone who can continue to build on that strength."
John Kime is a past Director of Cancer Care Ontario and a past Chair of the Board of Directors of the London Convention Centre. In private time he works quietly with a number of causes to assist the disadvantaged.
