Local design studio breathes new life into iconic downtown building

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: With a strong commitment to creating spaces that evoke emotion and tell a story, it’s only natural that local design studio, Design House London, would be immediately drawn to the city’s historic Gardner Galleries for their new home.

“These walls talk,” insists Rebecca Courey, Creator and visionary behind Design House London. “All we had to do was listen.”

Under Design House ownership, 186 York Street has undergone an incredible four story restoration, bringing the iconic London landmark into its next stage of life. A truly unparalleled space, the building not only houses the studio’s stunning fourth floor office space, but also a lifestyle retail store, custom furniture showroom, quaint café and spectacular event space.

Specializing in truly customizable, one of a kind design, Design House required a space that could function as a manifestation of all they are capable of. As a boutique design studio, they were drawn to the building’s old charm, sharing in its lament to simpler times. Exposed brick, large wood beams and copper pipes hark back to a forgotten era while modern fixtures and eclectic design elements create a stunning juxtaposition entirely unique to Design House London.

Dedicated to community engagement, Design House endeavours to leverage local connections and promote the opportunities available in the Forest City. Courey has worked with beloved London coffee shop, Fire Roasted Coffee Co., to create a custom Design House brew for the shop’s café. Additionally, as Fanshawe college alumni, the Design House London team is involved in the college’s Interior Decorating program, and have welcomed a co-op student to their studio.

Finally, after more than a year of renovation and restoration, Design House London has officially opened its doors to the public. By designing a space that encourages innovation and collaboration, Courey and her team have created a customer experience that is entirely their own. Patrons can enjoy a guided shopping experience with one of Design House’s expert designers, have an intimate meeting over coffee at the café, or leverage the building’s flexible event space for anything from black-tie parties to yoga classes. A candy-store for creators, Design House London is a mecca for urban professionals with a passion for creative expression and design. Although Design House is currently open to the public, a grand opening event (date to be announced) will take place in the fall.
