It’s true! Londoners are being offered a unique chance to improve their digital literacy at The HTML500 at the London Convention Centre on February 7.
The Elgin Middlesex Oxford Workforce Planning and Development Board, the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) and Techalliance have joined forces to present The HTML500. Developed by Vancouver-based start-up Lighthouse Labs, The HTML500 is a full-day event, where people with various educational and professional backgrounds learn how to write a programing code. With some degree of digital literacy being a part of almost any job these days, the event is geared towards everyone with or without prior programming knowledge.
With The HTML500 coming up on February 7, London will become one of two Ontario cities to host the event and the only one in Southwestern Ontario. Similar events will be taking place in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto throughout January and February.
“The HTML500 will be an exciting way to raise visibility for promoting digital literacy in London and Southwestern Ontario,” said Kapil Lakhotia, President and CEO, LEDC.
LEDC has been responding to the needs of a growing digital creative sector by creating opportunities through events including last Fall’s TechFest London and now The HTML500 to provide a talent pipeline for companies in that space. Promoting London’s tech companies and open jobs positions through LondonTechJobs.ca, LEDC is using traditional and digital media to shine a spotlight on the digital creative cluster in the city.
“London is steadily gaining traction as a hub for technology-related activities,” Lakhotia said. “This image will help us attract and maintain a strong and talented workforce in that industry.”
