London, ON September 23, 2009 . . . London Life announced today a major infrastructure upgrade and renovation project at its head office in downtown London, where the company was founded 135 years ago. The project will begin in November and is expected to take four to five years to complete.
"This project represents a significant investment in our head office building, and more importantly, it reflects our ongoing commitment to the London community," said Paul Mahon, President and Chief Operating Officer. "The London Life head office has served us well over many decades, however some parts of the complex, such as the heating and electrical system, need to be replaced," Mahon said. The renovation will feature the introduction of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly heating and electrical systems. "This is our largest single head office renovation project in Canada to date and it is a significant undertaking," Mahon said.
Originally built in 1926, the London Life head office complex at 255 Dufferin Avenue has been expanded over time to incorporate four separate buildings, the last of which - the Queen's Avenue building -- was completed in 1964. Most of the work will be confined to the Queen's Avenue building. The upgrade will encompass:
"We are committed to continuing to provide a safe work environment, and to minimizing disruption throughout the head office complex," Mahon said. Given the scope of the renovation, it will be necessary to relocate affected business units in stages over time.
