Heard of socks that not only establish a style statement, but also help entrepreneurs start businesses around the world?
Meet Cole and Parker.
Started by founders Diana Charabin and Jeff House, the company has, within its first year of existence, helped entrepreneurs and small businesses in South America with 120 loans through Kiva — an online lending platform through which individuals lend to small businesses around the world.
“We have a strong commitment to social enterprise here at Cole and Parker,” said Samantha Laliberte, Canadian business developer and PR co-ordinator, Cole and Parker. “The idea of a ‘gift that gives back’ resonates very well with our customers.”
Introduced to the world through an IndieGoGo campaign just a year ago, the brand of premium, high quality socks is now making its way into the U.S retail market. Securing three locations — one each in Pennsylvania, New York and Illinois — the socks will now be available at 65 stores in North America.
“Our products draw young professionals into the doors. Store-owners are understanding the importance of that initial interaction and how it can further their business as well,”Laliberte said.
Cole and Parker also recently hired four new team members in London.
“It’s exciting to have a team that is growing so quickly,” Laliberte said.
Designed with the help of a “design hackathon” attended by community, family and friends, the eclectic sock collection is making its way into the hearts and drawers of fans. But the startup has maintained a strong connection to its roots in London, Canada.
“The team feels connected with the startup community in London,” Laliberte said. “London’s where we got our first few retailers. Andrew Douglas Clothier that has stocked Cole and Parker since September, has served as a case study to show other retailers how to open up their store to bring in a younger clientele.”
What’s next for Cole and Parker?
Laliberte said there are a few things the “sockgame” fans can look forward to in the coming months. The company is amidst its second production run. Fans can expect to see some new length socks and some that can make your athletic endeavours stylish and classy.
“We’re also looking at expanding our product line. There’s lots to look forward to. So, follow along!” Laliberte said.
