Made-in-London tech reaching international markets

Race Roster, a fast-growing, London-based technology firm that has developed a cloud-based race registration system, is leveraging federal funding to bring their business overseas.

Recently, the company successfully secured $40,000 in funding from CanExport, along with an additional $4,000 from the Canadian Digital Media Network’s (CDMN) Soft Landing Program. So what does all of this mean for the company?

With this funding support, Race Roster can bring their made-in-London technology and software to international markets. The company has already started expanding into the Australian market, securing their first event, Run West. The race, which is happening March 31, 2019, is set to draw 20,000 people that will be using Race Roster’s registration system. A look inside the Race Roster office.

While Race Roster has been growing organically and locally here in London for quite some time, doing a downtown office shuffle with other tech companies in the core, this funding is enabling them to take their growth to the international level.

Our business is driven by a great product and great people. Our platform is turning heads in the endurance industry, and relationships have helped us drive sustainable growth, “said Alex Vander Hoeven, Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder, Race Roster. “Tech expansions have unique needs, and we’re glad to see CanExport and CDMN support our growth to Australia.”

The funding programs help offset transportation and accommodation costs to overseas markets, along with providing access to co-working spaces in these new markets and access to market research.

Securing this funding, however, is not often an easy feat. There are eligibility requirements, deadlines, thorough applications that must be completed, and key metrics companies have to reach in order be considered for some level of funding. Often, the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) helps local businesses navigate the funding process so they can put their best foot – or application – forward.

After investing lots of time and energy into these applications, Race Roster’s growth plan and strategy for taking their product to new markets was a clear fit for both funding programs. As they continue to grow their presence in new cities across the globe, Race Roster will continue to grow their home base here in London.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity to grow Race Roster in London, Ontario. London is a great place to grow a technology company,” said Vander Hoeven. “It’s home to our families, great institutions, and outstanding tech professionals. As we expand to Australia, we’ll add 10 more people to our team.”
