Manufacturing in London, Ontario

With close to 30,000 people, advanced manufacturing continues to be a significant employer in London’s economy. Leading companies such as 3M, Brose, and General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada have significant manufacturing facilities in London. Recent investments in the 401/402 corridor, industrial lands, research and development facilities as well as skills training are some of the ways London is building the right infrastructure for manufacturers.

2016 has brought exciting news for the manufacturing sector in London. Sodecia, a global auto parts maker that already has two plants in London, is making a $45 million investment in the city by opening a $15 million research and development centre and a $30 million sister plant. Their 75,000 sq. ft. R&D centre, called the Global Technology and Automation Centre (GTAC) employs about 26 people but will double staff within the year. You can read more about the expansion in the London Free Press: http://www.lfpress.com/2016/07/25/parts-giant-sodecia-putting-45m-stamp-on-london.

With 70 years of experience, aluminum castings plant Ramsden Industries is launching a $6.1 million overhaul with a provincial grant, creating 14 new jobs. Announced in July 2016, the company is investing in new technology to increase automation and connect two adjacent facilities, allowing Ramsden to meet new contracts. The expansion will bring their staff up to 70. Read more at: http://www.lfpress.com/2016/07/25/province-donates-611k-to-ramsden-industries-expansion.
