National Family Business Day Celebration

The third annual Celebration of Business Families will be held on Wednesday October 4th, “National Family Business Day” in partnership with the Business Families Centre at the Richard Ivey School of Business and sponsored by BDC. The event will take place at the Spencer Leadership Centre from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 pm.

This event is in recognition of National Family Business Week, a designation celebrating the substantial and vital role family controlled businesses play in our communities.

The breakfast Keynote Speaker is Donald Cooper of Cooper Canada, which became the world’s leading manufacturer of hockey equipment and Canada’s largest maker of both sporting goods and fine leather goods. Drawing on his real-life experience as a world-class manufacturer, retailer and tireless researcher, Donald devotes his full time to helping companies redefine and reinvent their business to thrive in the new millennium.

With wisdom, humour and a strong dose of customer reality, he delivers the “straight goods” on how to increase market share and profitability in the face of ever-stronger competition! Donald Cooper has helped thousands of companies throughout the world to add more value to their customers’ lives…and more dollars to their bottom line! Donald started work at the age of 6, sweeping the floor in the family business for 5 cents a day... long days and low pay. Excellent early training for an entrepreneur! He earned an undergraduate business degree and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario . . . followed by 18 years at Cooper Canada, the family business. Cooper Canada became the world's leading manufacturer of hockey equipment and Canada's largest maker of both sporting goods and fine leather goods.

The Breakfast Keynote will be followed by Family Business Educational Breakout Sessions: (A) “Beyond Branding: Sustainable Business Strategies for a Changing World” facilitated by Sandi Delaney, EcoStride Group, and (B) “Dealing with Difficult People” facilitated by Kathryn Munn, Munn Conflict Resolution Services.
