FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
LONDON, ON – January 21, 2020 — Northern Commerce is partnering with Fanshawe College to pioneer a new course on Shopify web development, a leading cloud-based, omni-channel commerce platform. The eight-week course will be available for free to second-year Interactive Media Design and Production (IDP) and Interactive Media Specialist (IMS) students, beginning January 23, 2020.
In the course, students will learn the fundamentals of building high-performing eCommerce websites using Shopify’s all-in-one commerce platform. The course will be taught by Northern Commerce front-end developers who build bespoke Shopify online storefronts for merchants, retailers, and manufacturers, including Nate Wiebe, 2018 Developer 30 Under 30 award recipient.
“Our goal is to ensure Fanshawe is at the academic forefront of the rapid evolution of tech platforms and the skills required to use them,” says Gilberto Murcia, VP Technology at Northern Commerce. “We’re helping these students build not just generalized web development skills, but the career-specific software skills that employers like us are looking for.”
The course aims to give students an immersive and hands-on look at the tools and platforms that are driving the eCommerce industry—like Shopify—before they start their careers. Headquartered and founded in Canada, Shopify powers over one million merchants in more than 175 countries and has generated over $135 billion in total sales since its launch in 2006.
“Our partnership with Northern Commerce is all about bridging the gap between college and our students’ first job,” says Justin Brunner, program coordinator at Fanshawe College. “This course gives students the opportunity to gain real-world experience on top of an accredited diploma.”
Interested IDP and IMS students may apply for this course by contacting Justin Brunner, Fanshawe College program coordinator.
