The LEDC creates direct and indirect economic activity in the city of London through collaboration with many partners throughout the community to ensure effective service delivery to client companies. Our partners, such as the City of London, TechAlliance, Small Business Centre, London International Airport, and the London Chamber of Commerce work with LEDC to service clients in their unique segments. Successful partnerships like these bring together unique expertise that result in economic prosperity in London.
Our business development team assists local business growth, attracting new business and submitting hundreds of proposals to potential investors around the world. Through LEDC efforts in 2014, over $42 million was invested into London’s economy from new foreign direct investment and existing business expansions.
To date, the LEDC has taken part in 10 federal direct investment missions, alongside many regional alliance members from the Ontario Food Cluster (OFC), Ontario Technology Corridor (OTC), Ontario Automotive Communities Alliance (OACA), and the Consider Canada City Alliance (CCCA). Aviation Conference
LEDC President and CEO Kapil Lakhotia travelled to Germany this fall to attend various meetings and conferences with companies interested in bringing their business to London, and those already heavily invested in our city. During this mission, Kapil met with a Bavarian Aviation cluster of 500+ companies in Austria and visited the Diamond Aircraft Industries head office.
Diamond Aircraft, located in London, Ontario, is an Austrian-based manufacturer of general aviation aircraft and motor glides. This family owned company is one of the world’s leading general aviation manufacturers, producing a complete line of all composite structure, propeller driven aircraft, ranging from 2 seat trainers as flown by the US Airforce, to special training aircraft. Launched in 1992, the company is located adjacent to the London International Airport, with over 220,000 square foot manufacturing space and more than 200 employees.
Anuga Food Show
LEDC Manager of Business Growth and Retention recently ventured to Cologne, Germany for the Anuga Food Show. Attending conferences and global opportunities allows the LEDC to market London to the world and attract federal investment opportunities.
Anuga is the world’s leading food fair for the retail trade and the food service and catering market. You will find numerous sources of inspiration across more than 280,000 sqm of exhibition area, pioneering trending topics, a supporting programme and great business opportunities. Around 160,000 trade visitors from 192 countries attended Anuga in Cologne, Germany in the 2015 October food fair.
