October 5, 2007 (London, Ontario) The Board of Directors of the London Economic Development is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter White as the new President and CEO of the LEDC.
Peter White, a native of St. Marys and a graduate of The University of Western Ontario ('87), began his career in London. He is currently a partner with Nexent Innovations Inc., a company that provides service management software solutions to customers in over 40 countries. White is also a Director with Globalstar Canada - Satellite Voice and Data Services and previously headed Globalstar's sales, marketing and customer operations in San Jose, California.
"We are delighted to welcome Peter back to London," said LEDC Board Chair Brian Semkowski. "He will take a fresh look and approach to business growth in London. Peter was a unanimous choice of our Board and we believe his experience in the U.S. and internationally will serve the LEDC well."
Semkowski noted that LEDC's first President and CEO John Kime was able to create impressive growth and strength in the manufacturing sector, and the LEDC Board anticipates the new CEO will continue that success in manufacturing and will be also able to have further successes in other sectors.
White says he looks forward to the challenge and opportunity of taking over an organization with a track record of success.
"London's economy is diverse, and the time is right to further expand and strengthen areas of our city's economy, including life sciences, information technology, advanced manufacturing and others," said White.
Semkowski said, "We are looking to Peter White to help us create a balanced portfolio, if you will, to ensure that London is well-positioned for a strong and stable future. We anticipate that his wealth of experience with the IT and technology industry in particular, will allow LEDC to improve its marketing to those types of companies."
Semkowski added that the highly experienced staff at LEDC will continue work on their portfolios and will assist Peter in getting up to speed as quickly as possible.
Peter White will begin his work with the London Economic Development Corporation on October 11, 2007.
The London Economic Development Corporation was established in 1998 as an independent public/private partnership between the City of London and London's business community. It works to attract new business investment to London, and to nurture and strengthen existing London companies.
