Student-2-Business Networking Conference: Connecting Skilled Students with Job Opportunities in London

LONDON, Ontario (January 26, 2012):  The fourth annual Student-2-Business Networking Conference is taking place Thursday, January 26th at the London Convention Centre.

With a challenging job market requiring students to be diligent and resourceful in the search for employment opportunities, the “S2B”conference offers an array of workshops, presentations and information sessions to guide them in the process. For businesses, the event is a valuable chance to access London’s pool of highly skilled new professionals, educated and trained locally for specific occupations in the advanced manufacturing, life sciences, information technology, digital media, communications, construction, business services, and not-for-profit sectors.  Business leaders and representatives from each sector will be in attendance to meet students in person and discuss how their skills may make them a perfect match for vacancies and long term employment opportunities offered in the area.

“Retaining graduates is a key component of our workforce development strategy,” says Robert Collins, Director of Workforce Development at the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC). “Although our overall local unemployment continues to be challenging, employers are actively recruiting for many skilled occupations. The prediction for labour shortages in the next few years is also strong,” explains Collins.

This year’s conference will feature an opening plenary from LEDC President and CEO Peter White on “London’s Economy and Opportunities”, workshops focusing on networking and recruiting tactics, an international student information session, as well as a keynote address from leading certified corporate image consultant Amy Casson, providing students advice and tips for getting noticed in the work force.

A  partnership between the London Economic Development Corporation, the City of London, Fanshawe, Western, and WIL Employment Connections, the Student 2 Business Networking Conference and is sponsored by local companies. Registration information and a full agenda are available at the website, www.s2b.ca.
