From digital interactive media development to software for financial services and human resources management, London, Ontario is an area of diverse technology. With more than 300 companies employing over 9,000 talented employees, the city is home to world-class, technological innovators.
Over 80 international students from secondary and post-secondary institutions in London had the opportunity to experience some of that innovation during a downtown technology tour. The event, held during International Week which ran from November 21-25, 2016, was organized by a number of institutions (listed below). The tech tour ran in tandem with a Civic and Heritage Plaques and Monuments downtown walking tour.
Starting at 1:30pm on Friday, November 25, the students were split into groups and each tour visited two tech companies with a different industry specialty. The walking tour lasted approximately two hours, where the groups visited Big Blue Bubble, Diply, Media Sonar and R-Traction. The event concluded with a reception at the centrally located London Public Library, with greetings from Mayor Matt Brown and time for networking with other students.
The technology tour gave the students an opportunity to see some of these companies first hand, and explore many exciting job prospects awaiting graduates from various disciplines in the heart of downtown.
