It all began in London Ontario in 1922 when George Stuart Trudell started a small business in London importing church goods from Europe. In one of the shipments he received some medical supplies in error. Among his customers were the hospitals run by the Sisters of Charity so he offered
it to them. They were so very happy with this mistake George decided to change his imports to Medical supplies and equipment. So Geo. S. Trudell & Company in 1924 moved his business to 83 Dundas Street; what followed were catalogues across Canada and more employees. George was joined in business by his son George Otto Trudell commonly referred to as the Colonel. In 1939, Ken Miller joined the company and but soon after took a leave to serve in the army. At this time Trevor Musto joined the company. During the war, Trudell was awarded a crest, which is still used to this day, by the Defence department of Canada for providing the army with supplies.
Meanwhile, Mitchell A. Baran married George Trudell’s granddaughter, Katharine Trudell. In 1948, George Trudell died and the company was run by his son the Colonel for 18 years until he died in 1966. Mitch Baran joined Trudell Medical in 1967 to help out in a leadership transition. Mr. Baran was a great fit with the business easily winning over the nuns on his sales visits to the hospitals. In the same year Mitchell A. Baran assumed the leadership as President and CEO of Trudell Medical Group.
The company thrived under Mitch and moved to 269 Colborne Street in 1974 and; 1984 brought a move to 926 Leathorn Street. The next 10 years saw Trudell span across Canada, and into the US and eventually launching into the manufacturing end of business. Today two new facilities are located on Third Street to accommodate the growing business.
The Trudell Medical Group of Companies has grown internationally with business all over the year – a true London success story.
