Try Recycling Inc. has been honoured for giving those with disabilities a chance at a job.
The Employment Alliance (TEA), a coalition of 15 agencies working to better employment opportunities for people with disabilities, named Try as its Ability First employer for June.
Try was nominated by Goodwill's Temporary Staffing Source, a department of Goodwill Industries. Since June 1999 Try has provided 42,000 hours of work for 218 different GTSS associates. It has hired three yard and one office staff full time from Goodwill.
"Goodwill TSS continually provided workers with all abilities to help meet our production needs," said Rick Vandersluis vice-president operations for Try.
"We have worked closely with the employees and GTSS staff to ensure that disability is not a factor but ability to complete the expected tasks."
Goodwill workers have directed traffic, recycled construction materials, operated machinery and done landscaping.
