United Way of London & Middlesex appoints new CEO

London, ON - June 24, 2009 - The Board of Directors of United Way of London & Middlesex is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Lockie as Chief Executive Officer effective August 5, 2009. Mr. Lockie is currently Vice President of Camping and Educational Services at YMCA of Western Ontario, a role he has held since 2004.

"We are very pleased Andrew has accepted this position," says Sandy Whittall, Chair of the Board of Directors for United Way of London & Middlesex and Acting Chief Operating Officer for St. Joseph's Health Care, London and London Health Sciences Centre. "Andrew has the experience we require to lead United Way through these economically challenging times, when the demand for social services continues to increase. His understanding of London and Middlesex County will help advance United Way's mission to mobilize the power of our community to create lasting change."

The board underwent a three-month search for a new CEO, engaging an executive search firm, which included broad consultations and input with community members in helping to define the role and expectations for the CEO.

Mr. Lockie is a native of Toronto and longtime Londoner. He completed his MBA at Richard Ivey School of Business and he is recognized for excellence in community service and collaboration. His involvement with YMCA began in 1991 and has included roles with the YMCA of Christchurch (New Zealand), YMCA Sudbury, and the YMCA of Western Ontario in numerous positions including Director of YMCA Camp Queen Elizabeth and General Manager of Camping Services.

"I'm delighted that Andrew will be joining United Way," says Ruth Young, acting CEO of United Way of London & Middlesex. "I've had the opportunity to work with Andrew and I know that he will bring strong vision and passion for our community."
