Western 'Job Shadow' Program Looking For Businesses

Is your organization interested in:

  • Getting an up-close look at the skill set of Western’s emerging talent
  • Showcasing upcoming volunteer or employment opportunities
  • Engaging with young minds interested in your field
  • Solidifying your brand among Western’s best and brightest
  • Making connections with faculty and staff at Western to build future partnerships

If you answered yes to any of the above, consider participating in Western’s Job Shadow Program

What is Job Shadow?

Job Shadow gives students a first-hand look at a work environment within a chosen field. Job Shadow offers a chance for students to engage with professionals who can aid in their career planning. Imagine if you could have test-driven your current position to see if it was good fit for your skills, interests and career plans? Imagine if you could have talked to an individual in your ‘dream job’ and made a connection that helped define your future? Job shadow connects students with future employers in meaningful ways and provides a ‘sneak peek’ into a work world that lies just beyond graduation.

Social Science students are interested in a wide range of career paths, including:

  • Business (Finance & Administration; Human Resources)
  • Communications (Marketing; Public Relations)
  • Education (Advocacy/Outreach, Teaching, Administration)
  • Government (Immigration; Research; Policy)
  • International Development
  • Nonprofit (Activism; Community Development; Fundraising)
  • Social Work (Corrections; Counselling; Support Services)

What does a Job Shadow experience look like?

It is our hope that the opportunity has at least 3 components:

  • An introduction to your organization
  • Interaction with some of your employees
  • A chance to ask questions about your work, education and career path

How do I host a Job Shadow student?

Job Shadow Experiences occur in November 2012, if you are interested in more information about becoming a host; please contact Jeff Watson jwatso72@uwo.ca or 519-661-2111 ext 89083

The Job Shadow Program is a collaborative effort between the Faculty of Social Science and The Student Success Centre at Western University
