With humble beginnings in southwestern Ontario, Tech Trailers started its independent business in 2003 and has grown to offer more services than one would expect for a small-scale operation.
The full-service truck, tractor-trailer, lift gate, and specialized equipment facility offers on-site maintenance, inspections, and repairs. The company is known as a local leader in structural repair and aluminum welding, and specializes in repairing transport trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and tailgates.Hood open on truck so the Tech Trailer team can perform maintenance duties on the engine.
The independent shop offers a hands-on approach to their forward-thinking solutions. Their mechanics offer a keen eye for quality workmanship while making trailers more technologically sound and bringing them up-to-date with the latest technologies. From refurbishing trailers to installing automated lubrication systems, Tech Trailers is a company where two growing industries – manufacturing and technology – collide.
Tech Trailers started out in Chatham but moved to London in 2011 to access a larger market. We spoke with James Currie, Sales Manager at Tech Trailers, who cited London’s prime location along the 401 corridor as one of the many reasons the company chose to call London home.
“There are more opportunities in a bigger market like London. Our shop is located right on Exeter Road which is a prime spot for this type of business as hundreds of transport trucks pass us every day,” said Currie.
The company’s growth over the years has been attributed to diversifying service offerings. Starting out primarily in metal fabrication, Tech Trailers expanded into the trucking industry where they formed multiple partnerships with service providers, such as LiftGator, Waltco Lift Gates, Groeneveld Group, Manac, Multivans, Tif Group, and Del Equipment, to meet the various needs of this new market.Newly installed slider liftgate. Collaborating with these companies allows Tech Trailers to leverage unique products and provide a diverse range of services to the London area. Lift gates, for example, can run anywhere from $10,000 for purchasing and installation. Tech Trailers is the only authorized dealer of LiftGator in Ontario, which is the only portable lift gate on the North American market, offering prices that start at $5,000. It’s partnerships like this that helps Tech Trailers connect local manufacturers and truckers with affordable solutions.
Currie also said becoming a member of the Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC) has helped the company network with many manufactures here in London and offer services, such as installing automated lubrication systems, in their warehouses and live docks.
As a result, Tech Trailers has worked with big names in various industries, such as Aecon Construction, TST Transport, Pepsi, and The Canadian Military. Their customers leverage Tech Trailer’s expertise, from bringing entire fleets of utility trailers and line trucks through the Tech Trailers shop for maintenance, to having lift gates repaired and installed.
To meet a high demand for quality service, Tech Trailers leverages talent from local educational institutions like Fanshawe College and provides ongoing employee training to support continued growth within their work environment. As the company continues to grow and respond to changing markets by suiting their service offerings to industry needs, Tech Trailers hopes to be a known driving force throughout southwestern Ontario. They have started collaborating more with local manufacturers and similar businesses to help support each other and build a network where they can all source local, affordable solutions easier.
